Rosaceae Family - Prunus virginiana
Common Name: Chokecherry
Flower Color: white
Fall Color: yellow
Most Common in Scrub Oak/Ponderosa ecosystems
Blooms in spring

Chokecherries are one of the showy white spring bloomers (Those are Fendlerbush, Serviceberry, Squaw Apple and Chokecherry) I'm often asked about when they're blooming. The chokecherry flowers are small and arranged in finger shaped racemes and are slightly yellowish. Fruit follows and, when not entirely consumed by birds, can make a tasty (yet bitter) jam.
